      Basic Info
Serious Sam: The First Encounter is about a manly hero dude named Serious Sam who traveled back in time to stop Notorious Mental, an evil alien god from destroying Earth. Now in Ancient Egypt, he has to travel through 15 action-packed levels and wipe out any and all variety of monsters trying to stop him along the way with his classic FPS weaponry. Yes, it is as absurd as it sounds but that is exactly why it is fun too, other than the already genius level designs. The levels are huge and filled with hundreds of enemies. Each level should take about half an hour to complete. The music in the game is wonderfully composed and it reacts dynamically to the situation. The graphics are surprisingly good for a 2001 game, featuring all sorts of special effects and it is gorgeous. Despite being GameSpot's 2001 PC Game Of The Year, it is mostly forgotten now because of getting overshadowed by more prominent games over the years. It doesn't make this little underrated gem any less fun though, and still holds up well in today's standards.

      Where To Buy It
Get it on Steam here for $10 which contains both The First Encounter and The Second Encounter together, optimized for modern computers. It's still in early access though, but it's only the technical engine stuff that needs to be finished so otherwise the game is 100% ready-to-play.

You can also download the official demo for The First Encounter here, which was released on May 2000.

Fun fact: It was the Crysis of the year 2000.
