Gaming Head Set - Suggestions?

  • Gaming Head Set - Suggestions?

    OK, so I really need a new head set for gaming / recording. I need help! I can find a ton online no problem, but I need something that works well for what I need and is quality stuff without burning a hole in my wallet. (thinking $60.00 or so at most)

    I don't care much about sound quality, so I don't need the fancy 3D or surround sound effect in the headphones. What I really need is a headset with an awesome microphone. The headphones themselves only really need to not project sound outside of the ear pieces... don't know how to explain other than the microphone on the head set I currently own picks up the sounds from my headphones (everyone can hear what I am listening to when used for other purposes) so there is an echo effect.

    I hear of a lot of the fancier head phones have the microphone go out decently soon because all the care goes into the sound quality. I really don't like the idea of a separate microphone... don't know why... I like having the microphone right there, moving with me.

    So all in all: Headset with an amazing microphone, don't care about headphone sound quality, and good padding or w/e on headphones so mic doesn't pick up sound.

    What do you bro's suggest? What are your experiences with head sets? Anything that has failed you, or done you good? I would love to hear some suggestions and personal experience :thumbup:

  • Honestly, you're WAY better off just buying a Blue Yeti microphone and a standard $20 pair of headphones. It'll last you longer and you won't have as many troubles with BG noise if you get a screen.
    In terms of headsets, just look for "Unidirectional", and do your research on the customer service.
    While my Steel Series headset was decent, I'd never go with them again because their customer service was terrible, and the headset only lasted me about 9 months. It was under warranty, but took 1 month to be replaced and they fucked up big time.
    Razer have good service, but not many unidirectional mics, if any. Megladons and Krakens (both regular and pro) are a beast for bg noise in my experience.
    Astro's are decent, mic quality isn't too bad, and as far as I know, not a huge amount of bg noise.
    Logitech aren't too bad as a whole, heard good things about their customer service, and have friends with mechanical keyboards and Logitech headsets, you can't hear them typing over Skype.

    As my hunt continues, I'm starting to believe I need to just suck it up and get a separate microphone... I've heard a bit about the Blue Yetti, but the prices scare me o__o LoL!

    Really appreciate the feed back Vicsyy! I'm going to research Megladon, Krakens and Astro a bit before jumping into the epic Yeti. I've only been recording for about a month, so on the off chance I don't follow through with the youtube bit I don't want to invest too much into equipment right away, you know? But hey, things seem to be going good so far, so I may say screw it and get the Yeti :3

  • For my videos I've been using a Turtle Beach x12 it works great the heaphones are good, the mic is clear they are perfect for me, plus I love the green colour :D only cost me £49.99
    Honesly I did not do it.. I think it was that tree, he was looking pretty shifty earlier :thumbdown:

  • This may not be the IDEAL gaming set-up, but it's what i use. I use a sennheiser hd pro e835 microphone(w/ boom mic stand and pop filter) and I position it right in front of my face when I'm doing videos. I use Sennheiser HD Pro headphones as well. I feel like this blows most gaming headphones out of the water.
