    • Saints Row or GTA series?

Okay, so I just posted this thread to see which series you prefer. I AM NOT TRYING TO START A FLAME WAR. I personally, like the Saints Row series better because it has deep custimization and it's all-around silly - this is unique to me. So what do you prefer?

    • I really enjoy both.

They both offer very different experiences. GTA is definitely the more complete experience with a vast, world that sometimes feels alive. The scope is extremely impressive. You have to admire how much care went into designing the games.

Saints Row shines with it's customization and insanity. The newer GTA games got very realistic, which is all well and good... but I love the arcady feel and Saints Row delivers. It's non stop madness and zany feel keeps me coming back for more. I always wanted a sandbox game with super powers and the freedom to just go absolutely nuts. Saints Row IV is the perfect game for me in that regard.
    • The Saints Row for me :)
GTA is cool and all but Saints Row has more varieties throughout and GTA is actually all the same :/
On the outside I may appear like an emotionless sarcastic piece of shit, but just like an onion, when you peel off more layers, you find the exact same thing every single time and you start crying.

how does this help the thread though

Because i'm simply stating out that i'm on a stalemate when it comes to choosing a personal preference between GTA or SR, and just bringing up an alternative video game of a a similar genre.

So i'm sorry if a rustled your jimmies, but since we live in a cold, dark and vindictive media-brainwashing capitalist world, i'm supposed to wade away in peer pressure to your -4 rep, just because i was trying to express my own alternative opinion.

Thanks for again reminding me how we're all working class slaves who worry over small things but don't give a shit for the major issues in the world.

      That wasn't the fucking point.

I respect your opinion, but the point of the thread was to vote either GTA or Saints Row. NOT anything else. What you said didn't really contribute to the thread. If you want to talk about how Postal is better than both of these, go talk about it somewhere else. Not on this simple question thread.

Also, thanks for making me feel good about myself and having faith in other people by beating memes to death and missing the entire point of my post and trying to counter it by acting like a know-it-all-i'm-so-cool jackass. (which is essentially what I'm doing but hey, we're all hypocrites sometimes) Let's not de-rail the thread though.

But I don't 'know it all'. I was just making statements based on your contravening reaction, but since you have contradicted yourself thrice over in your self-confessed hypocrisy, here's me 'contributing' for the sake of your pussyfooting accusations of me doing otherwise:

The GTA series is more realistic/serious, but there gets a point when you're playing it both on single player and Multi-player when you just get bored of doing the same thing over and over and you want to stay on the game, but there aren't like crazy diversions or like comic things you can do. The Saints Row series, especially Saints Row 2, has so many diversions and distractions that are so fun to do. When you want to take a break from the story line, you can do things like crowd control (its a diversion) which when you do it you are like a security guard for celebs and you have to like stop the fans from harassing the celeb and you do this by doing things like grabbing them and throwing them into a plane engine or throw them into the back of a swat van or throwing them off a building, etc. Plus with the diversions once you've completed them to a certain level of them (like reached and completed level 10 or something) you unlock certain weapons/outfits/abilities/vehicles,etc. For example if you master the basejumping activity, you receive no fall damage when you fall great heights which is quite useful. The Saints Row series also has a far superior customization feature. The amount of things you can do to your vehicles/character are incredible. For example you can get a jeep and make the front wheels like 6 times bigger than the back ones whilst having kneecappers (theese spikes that come out of your tyres and pop other peoples tyres when you get to a certain speed). You can choose the way your person walks, speaks, compliments people, insults people and the way they fight in hand to hand combat, for example. I could go on about customization for hours.

To be honest,Saint's Row 2 was a good contribution to the SR series. It had a much tougher challenge, as it lacked many of the external factors that made its predecessor successful. While optimistic about their product, Volition was undoubtedly anxious about the retail numbers, having their launch within two months of Grand Theft Auto IV. All they could do was pray that they'd built enough of a fan base to keep the series alive. Well, despite only selling roughly a quarter the copies of their rival, the fans held strong, with several million units sold to date, putting the series into an elite group of best-selling video game franchises.
The game was a nice balance between fun/crazy and realistic/serious. It had some crazy and fun gameplay elements, but the story itself was still mostly serious. It was was the pinnacle of the series. Saint's Row 3 and 4 went in the wrong direction. When the fans went on the SR forums asking for more crazy they meant in the GAMEPLAY, not the story. Volition and THQ completely misunderstood what people asked for. Even now after so many people complained about SR3's ridiculousness and pure stupidity, Volition didn't listen because they literally think SR3's higher sales meant that everyone who bought it enjoyed it. It doesn't work that way. You don't know if you like a game until you play it. SR3's sales were due to SR2 being awesome, and the huge marketing campaign for SR3.
Saints Row IV, in short, is stupid. Its jokes are hit and miss, it suffers from terrible production values, and none of its gameplay elements stand up to close scrutiny. And yet somehow, despite all its manifest faults, it works. Like an inconsistent sketch show you forgive the many failures simply because the successes are so much more memorable and unexpected. Saints Row IV gets away with a lot and that’s one of its most endearing qualities.

Saints Row 1 and 2 weren't bad as a overall experience, but they had a terribly unoriginal concept. Volition weren't planning to make groundbreaking game, but earn some cash by taking it from GTA fans' hands. It worked for them, but then they decided to go in totally ridiculous direction leaving everything they made behind.

However, upon mid-thought, it’s not very fair to compare GTA with Saints Row games. They have two very different goals. Second of all, Saints Row the Third is the first Saints Row game I've played, and I did like it for the most part. But I lost all respect for THQ when they took Saints Row the Third, changed the story line, added aliens, new weapons and abilities, and called it a whole new game. I’d compare this “new” game to how GTA 4 added TLAD and TBOGT. They weren't new games based on a new foundation, and Rockstar didn't try to pass them off as that. THQ on the other hand is over hyping what should’ve and could’ve been a DLC. Honestly, I've been playing Saints Row 4 for the past couple days and I definitely had more fun with the Third. Maybe the idea of GTA V has ruined it for me, but I get too many deja vu moments during Saints Row 4. I hate playing a game and thinking “Didn’t I play this last year?”

Grand Theft Auto IV is an excellent example of a crime game since it's one of the best in series on PS3 rather than one of the PSP GTA games, because the PS3 controls are superior to the PSP controls, and the PSP GTA's are pretty frustrating. So, I would say play GTA IV and see if you like it. If you do, try the previous ones. If you don't, GTA really isn't your cup of tea, because it gets worse from there unless you're looking to have a fun time doing random sandbox activities in San Andreas. To be honest, Saints Row 2 is more for people who wanted GTAIV to be like San Andreas...and GTAIV was the natural evolution of the series and an attempt at more realism (partially successful). If I could have only played one game, it would have been GTAIV.

      TO Conclude:

Saints Row has an plethora of maniacal plot twists and unnecessary/unfunny tropes poked in from recently but has impressed me with it's diversity of customization options and quick, fast paced quirks and occasional satisfying mayhem as a sandbox game, and

GTA has been the king of crime game sandbox for a long while and not only make intricate but well thought out story lines, but continues to this day to vigilantly simulate an excellent experience when it comes down to main missions, or combat mechanics, something SR does too.

I cannot decide a winner, which is exactly why i proposed a different suggestion of Postal, but since a certain someone (Gonzo mason) doesn't like me to, i won't go over why I have considered it a worthy comparable experienced than opposed to GTA or SR, but instead leave it be.

I declare the debate between the two (GTA and SR), in my opinion, a draw. I cannot decide which is better as the differences range in an overflow of different ways.

    • I can spend hours creating characters from celebrities in Saints Row 4 and upload them to youtube. GTA 5 on the other hand gets boring soooo fast without mods or multiplayer. hopefully gta 5 is better, haven't played it because it's not on pc yet

      Postal 2 =p... hahaha.

I havn't played GTA 5 because lack of console and it is unfortunate that GTA 5 wont be on PS4 for a while. So I cannot make a judgement on GTA 5. I even have not watch many/any videos of GTA 5.. maybe 1-2 videos.

I played SR3 as my first. For some reason, I seem to have more fun in SR3 than SR4... I dont know.

I wish they could've changed the setting so its not the same city AGAIN lol. Seems they just used the same city and changed some aesthetics XD...
    • I think Saints Row series is better. Especially customization, that's something I really like in games. Also, it's REALLY funny and it's so much fun to play, I never get bored by this. And the new SR is just perfection. Flying? Killing enemies with fire and ice? Telekinesis? YES PLEASE!

GTA is more realistic though. It's also really fun to play but... I don't know, I didn't even play a lot of GTA. Only an hour or so? So I can't really judge but GTA seems boring as hell.
    • For me i enjoy both
But all in all gta takes it for me
The new Saints row is just a big DLC content for me nothing really new city is the same and once you max
your powers theres no point in enjoying the cars
Story is all right for me though
