  • Distance between microphone, pop filter and mouth

    Hey there,

I'm not a professional microphone user, so I wanted to ask:

How far microphone should be from my mouth (I have Blue Yeti) and how far pop filter should be from the microphone. Some people says that pop filter should be about 6-inches away from the microphone and again, pop filter should be about 6-inches away from the mouth.

    How do you use these?

    6-inches = 15,24 cm

  • Let me put it this way:

Shorter distance = Clear voice, less noise, less excessive audio
Closer you are the microphone it will pick your sound better, you'll become louder the closer you are.
When you are close and speaking to microphone you can drop the volume so only your voice remains at listenable levels, but everything else that microphone could pick, such as keyboard or table. Will be considerably quieter thus you get rid of all the excessive noises you dont want the microphone to pick up for who ever is listening you.

Longer distance = More noise and excessive audio
The further away from the mic you are, you are more and more quiet, this means you have to increase the volume so you can be heared. But it also means that all the crap gets also picked up by the microphone.

My audio equipment should arrive tomorrow and i'm going to make unboxing out of them. While at it I might aswell make a video showing how the distance affects the microphone etc.
