    • Server overheating?

      Hello, I have a server that runs at 43 C at idle 55 C at 50% load and 60 C at 100%

      The server has got
      Gigabyte
      GA-8SIMLH-P Motherboard

Socket 478 Pentium 4 extreme edition CPU @ 2.40 Ghz With hyper threading (With stock cooler)

2 GB of DDR 333 ram

      300 Watt PSU

      Sis chipset

      3 exhaust fans

      Arctic Cooling thermal compound

The CPU has full contact with the heat sink and when I touch the heat sink its not very worm and it never runs hot.
But I don't know if its the thermal compound under the Heat spreader and I don't want to remove it.

IS there anything else wrong? ?(
    • Sounds like poor contact between the cpu and heatsink, you may want to remove the heat sink, clean off the old thermal compound and replace it with a even coating across the heatsink, use a credit card of a gloved finger to do it. If it's not even coating then the heat won't be distributed from all parts of the cpu, and will cause some parts to be warmer than others.

    • if you buy a better cooler it may still fix the issue, though with the processor you're running you could buy a new one for the same price of a half decent heat sink anyway, cpu's arn't as expensive as people make out, maybe you could upgrade to dual core which would improve your performance especially with the ivybridge pentium dual cores which can be found for £70 in some places

    • I have removed the cpu and I just pulled the plate off the CPU without damaging the PCB on the cpu, Under the plate there is some black thing that is the thermal interface.

Should I scrape that off and replace the thermal Compound?

before I glue it back on?
