    • Video Games that you overlooked/underestimated?

There are a many games that have been overlooked or underestimated, maybe because it gameplay, bad reviews, or maybe its graphics. Was there a game that you overlooked? Why? And did you ever get a chance to play that game?

My first game that I overlooked was Harvest Moon. My brother bought it, I looked at the back of the case, and my first impressions was that it was a farm simulator. I've been playing RPG games as well as FPS games at that time, but never a farm simulation game. I eventually played it and realized it was both a farm simulation and a RPG game, instantly hooked :D .
The most recent game I overlooked was Skyrim an RPG in first person was like foreign to me... My brother told me to buy it, and I did, I let him play first. When I got the chance, I was kind of 'meh'.....until I killed a chicken and I had the whole Whiterun coming after me XD.

    • Most of the time I've experienced disappointment in games that had such great beginnings. Like the Max Payne games. (the 3rd one is a huge let down for me)
But I've played some games that I didn't think of much, like Fable - The Lost Chapters(I ended up playing and finishing it about 4 times in a row), then there's the Total war series(I didn't really like strategy games, but when I started to play Medieval II I got hooked on it and now I own almost all the the Total war games).
    • Breath of Fire iv i assume? I got a pirated AND translated copy when i was like... idk, 10? Still, that makes me understand the game wholly
and practically the first game with a magnificent story that i appraised. And even ended up shoving it on people's asses. The whole "Combo-fusion-thingy-or-something" is quite solid too. Not to mention the wonderful and lively characters like ershin n ursula n cray n shit. And since you play using fou - lu sometimes, there's this "Holy shit i'm going to fight this mofo who just took down a dinosaur with 2 hits?" feelings throughout the game. One of the best turn-based rpg i've ever played indeed. AND YES I HAVEN'T PLAYED FF7 COS FUCK THE POLICE

If you're angry, don't break anybody's heart, they only have one..... Break their bones, they have 206 of them
    • Civilization III. First played this game when I was 9. I'm a big fan of Command and Conquer series (except the 4th one) and my friend said to me that if I like CnC, I'll probably like it. So, he showed the game and played it in his PC. First impression: Boring, and that graphic! CnC all the way! But.. I can't refuse it, so I borrowed it anyway.

So, I installed this game in my old PC, played it for 30 minutes, got bored. Why? Because it's so complicated, I mean.. it's not RTS it's turn based strategy and I know nothing about turn based. So, I stop playing this game IMMEDIATELY for around 2 weeks. Finally, because I got kinda bored with CnC and Stronghold, I tried to give this game a chance, slowly understanding this game, how it works, how to make this game fun to play, everything. I saw how the other enemy build their empire.

This indirectly cause me to play this game for a countless hours and slowly love this game, and finally..now I really love the entire Civilization series, and Civ IV was the best. It's a very deep, realistic, and addicting turn based strategy game.

The second one is Cat Lady, my first impression when I saw a (pirated) DVD in a local game store, "This is gonna be a scary game, but wait, I'll have to search for more information before I buy something", search it on YT and not that impressed with the game, meh..just another typical point and click game, not new. And suddenly forgot about this game for about 1 month, because my interest of this game has completely gone.

One month later, I'm already tired with the "mainstream:" game and decided to try something new, so I got back to the store to buy a new game, and I see that game still in that store, and I thought "See? It's a bad game, no one interested", so I searched for another game, but I can't find a good one. "OK, I don't have any choice, it's just $2 anyway, not a big loss". I bought the game and played it, I wanted to quit the game after 20 minutes or so, but luckily I don't, yes it has a slow start, but after that "slow start" the real emotional, unforgettable, disturbing, epic. indescribable, "beautiful", adventure begins. And now I already finished for the 3rd times, and it's very rare that I finished a game more than one time except this game is so awesome.

Now, I really regret buying a pirated copy of this game, I mean, I really want to support the developer to make this kind of game again.

I think to this day, I cannot understand why people continue to buy each new Pokemon game. The proceeding pokemon games are essentially the exact same game. I mean, the third one was the first game to really stand out from it's series, but the 4th and 5th and so on are replications of the 3rd but with a different story.

I've actually bought Gen. 5, and it was much better than I anticipated. New characters, Gym styles, everything was better than I thought it would be ??

Maybe it's just me, but I bought Black + White expecting nothing new, but I was surprised at how good the game was.

However, I do agree with you on the other generations. Diamond/Pearl, HeartGold/Soulsilver and B2/W2 were completely useless, in my opinion, but hey, it's still a Pokemon game, and I'd like to enjoy it. I'd buy them either way.
