    • Disney closing LucasArts?

This is a troubling time for me and star wars/Indiana Jones/Thrillville fans. According to an article from GameInformer and a friend, LucasArts is having its doors closed by Disney. This will not only likely guarantee no more games from them, but also further destabilize the economy to/past its breaking point. Comments will be appreciated.

    • I wouldn't take it that far. Disbanding Lucasarts was probably a financial decision by Disney.

Now if you look at Lucasarts' track record with recent games you will see that they weren't doing so great e.g. Force Unleashed 2, Star Wars Kinect, Lego Starwars Clone Wars, etc. None of those were well received products and even fans hated them.

Now news of this for a while now has stated that Disney has given EA the rights to produce their hardcore games, while Disney will use its LightStudio to produce casual games. This has now created rumours that 1313 is being put back in production and also allowing the work for Battlefront 3 to continue. The thing is that when you have a studio that isn't producing its full potential then there is no point paying for it anymore.

      EXAMPLE!

You hire a guy to paint your fence but he spends 5 months painting it and the paint coats are uneven and not correct. It is a bad job on his part. Would you feel like paying him?

Now while people hate EA for whatever reason. They actual produce some pretty great games and also own one of the most acclaimed studios to ever create Star Wars games in existance, which is of course Bioware. Don't worry my chummy chum chum, Star Wars and all those games you love by them...is safe.

    • I'm more afraid of what EA WILL do that will make these games worse. They already lost a lot of fans and ruined their reputation when they did a shotty job on Command and Conquer 4

    • They also brought you the last red alert and green lit the Tiberian Wars series in the first place. I know people are mind bent on blaming EA for everything but you need to remember that the developer makes the game, while the publisher offers creative financial advice to the dev team that will bring them more money. Remember that the games industry is about making money, not just making you happy.

Now for your previous statement on Tiberian Twilight, it was actually seen as a good title but obviously the pulled back graphics and DRM did let a few people down. Now remember that yes the DRM was the publisher's fault, but don't make EA Los Angeles who has developed all recent C&C games the innocent victim here. Design decisions sometimes don't pay off as you see with games like Mass Effect 3 but ultimately people accepted.

DRM was also an average success and also a rough concept at the time that was being implemented by not just EA at the time.
