Fraps never really runs 'smoothly' I have an amazing computer but still you'll be able to notice the difference when not recording. It shouldn't be too noticeable with what you have though, you have a decent comp.

He doesn't even say what his GPU is and you guys are telling him that it will be fine? I say no. It won't be smooth since your gpu and ram will take a huge toll from recording using fraps. You can play med settings. I think you only have GT 540m or 640m?

just go for fraps alternatives like bandicam. My shitty low spec PC rages like hell on fraps , ran with bandicam smoothly.

Yes I just got bandicam, runs smooth, those cracks don't work anymore so I bought a license for $39

If you are having problems with fraps(specially how huge the recorded files are, that was the nr. 1 turnoff for me) I recommend you use Bandicam.
Thats what I'm using. It's simple and easy to use, has all the options you'd want for a beginner, can record both full screen apps as well as just portions of the screen. And after recording a few dozen games with it I haven't run into any problems so far.

It's going to depend on what you are recording. I wouldn't record anything that your computer can't handle 100% without the recording software. As was suggested, grab the trial to test it out on whatever kind of footage you are trying to record before you make a decision.

Okay so you are going to be recording some game play. Basically if you don't have a video capture card your video card and processor will go through a lot. So you need to try something if you are concerned about lagging.

1. Don't run any useless program this makes the game run slower and can help you record faster. for instance close Google Chrome.
2. Run basic Maintenence simple programs and windows can help the game run faster. I recommend using Advanced System care. (1 click fixes it all.)
3. Caution: Try over clocking the processor this can cause issues or fry the processor if done wrong.
4. Buy a video capture card.
5. Run the game on lower settings.
6. Use a lighter recording software I use bandicam.
7. Change the settings in frap to record at lower quality.

Why do you keep preaching about Mirilis Action everywhere , while there are way better alternatives? Trust me , Mirilis Action isn't that good, I can only say its better than fraps for low-end PC's.

In my opinion, from what I know, you can run fraps smoothly....

I don't know if Fraps really requires much.
A lot of the time on my old desktop, I could record fine but then the game would lag a little bit.
Fraps never had an issue aside from the file sizes.
But now that I got this laptop, 3rd gen(I think) i5, 8gb ram amd 7670 graphics card and 1tb hard drive, nothing really has an issue. Fraps doesn't seem to kill framerates or anything.
Basically what I'm saying, I think you can run fraps fine. Just depends on the game you're recording more than anything.
