Convert program? Smaller filesize for youtube but still with high quality.

I just could use some advice on which sofwares to use, when it comes to edit and record.

I use Dxtory to record, it works alright and takes no performance from computer. And it also records mic.

But the bad part is that the filesize gets kinda big. And the question is which program to use when to convert the filesize to a smaller size.

I uploaded my first gameplay on youtube yesterday, and it took over 1½ hour. Is there any programs to convert to a smaller size but still maintain the quality? I really want 720p on youtube.

You need to be little more specific about size and format of files you trying to upload .
My 10-15 minutes long videos have something like 20 GB right after recording and 2 GB after rendering and it took me at least 2 hours to upload one of them .
But most of my videos are 1080 ... . Using Fraps for recording and Sony Vegas for editing and rendering . Rendering in .wmv format .

So yeah , to me 1½ hour looks pretty good but idk how big and long your videos are .

Well the format im using with dxtory is H264.mpeg Or something

Filesize is approx 1.18 gig for 18 minuts long clip.

Im guessing since your filesize were alot bigger, I am kinda lucky

Maybe I should feel satisfied atm then

I always render first in premiere pro to get all sound and stuff right and then render again in after effects to get the filesize down. so my files are between 300-600 mb when done

Yea but My filesizes are quite the same about 500-750 mb big. So I guess its a good thing, just wondered if it was possible to compress them even smaller but still maintain the quality

I use Sony Vegas 11 to edit and render, it gives you a giant variety of file-types to render as, such as popular ones like MP4, WMV, ABI, etc. I usually do WMV, but if I need a small file-size, I usually use MOV or MP4.

Yea, Thanks. But I just use Dxtory + Windows movie maker atm

Do you have any idea which format youtube is using?

You can compress them through "Handbrake" Search it on google. Mine is almost the same as yours then convert to Handbrake.

500MB will go down to 100mb.:)

Search for a tutorial too how to get the best output from it on Youtube.:)

Tried that program, Dunno what went wrong, But the sound got all bugged

Use stereo instead of Dolby Sound II(not sure the name)

Then get 128 bitrate.

I use VirtualDubMod. It is really easy to use and it makes a 2GB file into a 200-500MB file so it is really useful in my opinion and the quality is still 1080

If you are looking to convert files to smaller files AFTER editing, i would suggest Handbrake. Its a free program, and very easy to use, but i am not sure what the outcome would be. Another program is Camtasia. That program is fantastic for editing, screen recroding (Not games), but its also good for converting small files. Just drop it in and select "HD for Youtuve" And uncheck maintain aspect ratio. When the rendering is done, it should be alot smaller!

Dont know if it helps much but i use premiere pro editing videos usually getting everything straighten up and then i render it with adobe media encoder i record with fraps at least 16 minutes tops so a file that long would end up being about 22 gb but after rendering it it less that 700mb to 400mb with all the effects needed.
