Fraps is screen recording software used to record video from games using either opengl or directx. (Newer versions of fraps can record the entire desktop or selected regions, good for old games) Here I have compiled a guide on the usage of fraps.
1. How do I record?
Under the "movies" tab of fraps, choose a hotkey and press that whenever you want to record. A recordable game shows the Frames Per Second in 1 of the 4 corners of the screen. Use the same hotkey to stop recording.
2. How do I capture my voice from a microphone?
Easy. Just check "Record External Input" under the movies tab. You can also choose to only record if you press a hotkey.
3. Why does my fraps video take up so much space and is in parts?
Fraps doesn't have time to compress the video it records, so recording a modern game will take up about 1.8 gigabytes per minute. Obviously, you cant upload that to youtube, so you must compress and edit the video with video editing software. I use sony vegas, but even windows movie maker works fine for fraps video.
4. Why did fraps not record my microphone?
Sometimes, fraps still is set to use a microphone that has been unplugged and replugged into the computer. Close fraps and open it again to fix the problem. As for the lost footage, well, sorry.
