    • Dredd Vs Judge Dredd review

Hey guys, I've been planing for some time to try and exspand out what sort of videos I do.
I decided that I would try to do some movie/game reviews and comparisons.
I just got in a green screen and this is my first time using it, it would be mad if you could give me some advise on what I am doing right or wrong.
I think I need to get better audio.

Anyway here is my Dredd vs Judge Dredd Comparison

      I wove you...

    • This was a good effort but there are a couple of things in my opinion that could be done to make it better.

The first is to use a script. You spend quite a few times thinking off the top of your head. Your eyes wander off to the top left of the screen. What is over there? A plate of muffins? I LOVE MUFFINS! Keep your eyes on the viewer. Put a line card next to the camera and read off it, or just memorise it, so that you can keep your head straight. It isn't a massive issue but this reviewing style generally requires the critic to keep his eye on his audience. (Experience as an A level Media/ Film student)/

The second thing is to maybe do jump cuts. A lot of Vloggers do this and it allows them to record individual sentences and also put a lot of energy into those sentences without having to put all that brain power into a full paragraph of script. Sure it is looked down upon on Vloggers, but you are being a critic which works in your favor.

Apart from that I loved the video editing with the clips. You picked some really good snippets from both films and they contributed to the light hearted humor from those videos to your points. "I give this one to Dredd" [Cuts to Stallone] "IT'S A LIE!".

Finally buy a mini clip on mic. It is hard to hear you at times, which makes the video suffer seeing as the video quality is good. Clip on mics are pretty cheap and if your camera supports them then you are golden.

To contribute to the video discussion. I loved Stallone as Dredd. If the director had handled Stallone better then Judge Dredd would have been great. Stallone has the jaw line to be the perfect Joe. Karl Urban was also awesome as Judge Dredd and they both had their own strengths to the role. Though Stallone's suffered from the poor writing of the script and because he was forced to play off Rob Schneider. Can you picture what Judge Dredd would be like without The Carrot? It would have been pretty good I think.

Dredd was a fantastic film though and I even liked it more than Dark Knight Rises, it is probably my favourite comic book film ever next to Batman (89). My only problem with it was that Dredd's gun play was a little poor. There is a bit where Dredd goes up a staircase and he basically just points and shoots down them all in one camera shot. He also did it two handed and didn't perform it like a bawse. Judge Dredd as a character is known as a Clint Eastwood archtype who likes to shoot his victims one handed while doing some awesome pose. Stallone's Dredd shined in this area. That isn't to say that all of Dredd's fight scenes are bad as there are some really good ones but the legendary lawmen wasn't made to be an uber badass like the comics touted him to be. This is probably because of the small budget though, which the creative team handled really well.
There is always time for muffins.
    • Dude thank you very much for that!
You pointed out things I had not even thought of to fix.

I have a bad tendency even through I was using a script to start improvising off the top of my head. I think what I will do next time is revise the script twice then say it all out loud and then add more changes then film.
I think it could have been a drink I had made that day, some sort of cocktail... I was waiting till after to drink it :P

I will defintaluiy do some more jump cuts from now on! Might help me keep my true enthusiasim

Yeah I have some problem with the audio. All I have is a Zalman clip on mic that goes to my pc since my camera does not have a mic input. I could use the Zalman which does give a better quality. Thanks I will see how it looks, I did not want to use it at first since it has a cord.

It would have been an entirely different movie if the stapler was not in it!

You know funny enough I was looking at that same clip where he goes to the stairs and thought the same thing. Something just was not right there or through out the rest of the film with the gunplay. Still loved it but I know what you mean.
I don't really mind that he did not use two hands.

I'll take all of what you said into account for my next Comparison The Girl with the Dragon tattoo vs the Girl with the Dragon tattoo
