They finally found a screenwriter for Shadow Of The Colossus !!!

    • While I'm happy for the development team, there are a few things that I have to say.

Making a movie for Shadow of the Colossus isn't a good idea in the first place...I'll supply a few reasons for why it isn't:

      1) A video-game is a immersive experience, "Shadow" provided an 8~12 hour experience where the player could absorb himself in a desolate but engaging world as Wander. While riding across the large stretches of wasteland and defeating the various Colossi, the player would eventually form a cohesive bond with the game's characters. The reason why "Shadow" is so powerful is because the loss felt by the player by Wander's death was strengthened because we have a bond with Wander. A studio produced movie would have a large challenge in emulating the same emotional impact due to the nature of the length of a movie—it's not easy to bond with a character in a few hours, while some movies are able to retain a strong emotional center in a few hours, but movie's like this aren't easy to make. And while I have faith that director Josh Trank (Chronicle) might be able to pull it off, most of the time—these movies tend to be lackluster in the "emotional" department.

      2) The sheer amount of content in "Shadow's of the Colossus" would be hard to cram in an entire movie. "Shadow" depends heavily on repeated battles with 16 Colossi. As evidenced by "Transformers", movies that feature repetitive action set-pieces get old soon. The same could come to "Shadow's of the Colossus", in order to pace the movie correctly, the filmmakers will have to cut out some Colossi. But doing so will disappoint the gamers. But if the studio decides to keep everything...well, good for them. But movies that tend to repeat themselves get boring quick, and we wouldn't want that would we?

      3) The nature of the story would be hard to emulate. Wander doesn't talk to anybody else in the entire game, the reason why some videogames could be made into movies is because the characters are always interacting with other talking individuals-movie's are moved by dialogue and story. But with a videogame like "Shadow" where Wander only engages in a few dialogue-free cues with Mono and Aggro and the story is only revealed at the very end...making a super-loyal adaptation of "Shadow's of the Colossus" would be a herculean task, it's almost like making a silent movie.

      4) The cost of rendering each Colossus and paying for the special effects will cripple a studio's decision on whether or not a movie would be made. These movies cost a lot of money to make and if they don't do well, similar movies won't be made. There's a large potential audience for "Shadow of the Colossus", but then again, video-game movies don't usually do very well at the box office. So if the studio decides to pull the plug on an expensive project in the fear of losing money, this movie probably wouldn't even be made—heck, if this movie does poorly, we're probably not going to see action epics for a long time.

      5) The relative inexperience of the director should be something to note of. While "Chronicle" was a superb movie, a director with only 1 movie under his belt wouldn't be the best choice of making a movie like "Shadow of the Colossus". While Trank does have potential, it's dangerous to give a beloved property to a neophyte that's fresh of a new movie.

      6) Also, do we really need a "Shadow of the Colossus" movie? The game's good enough as it is, making a movie for "Shadow" is like George Lucas adding CGI whomp rats to Skywalker Ranch in the remastered blue-ray of the Star-Wars Saga, it's impressive but it's extraneous.

That's what I think though, I'll probably watch it if it gets made...but I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the quality of the overall movie.

    • Personally I thought Hanna was rubbish.

So this movie would have to show the back story of the sword love and all that? Hopefully they take the games approach and just show the start as scenes ridding to the temple as flash backs of what had happened that way keeping the back story to a minimum and more true feeling to shadow of the colossus.

I'm not sure how they are going to get all the Colossus in there...

I really hope they keep to the games story and do not try to add any major scenes of history to make the story more dramatic.

The colossus always look so natural too, so I'm a little worried if they go full CGI it will just look to fake or to perfect

I just don't want to see this made into a dramatic action adventure
      I wove you...

      Oh what YOUTUBE ATTACK!

I'd hate to break it to you, but "Shadow of the Colossus" translates as a epic action movie with dramatic elements (rekindling love, defying rules...etc). So if you don't want to see this made into a "dramatic action adventure", you're asking for a Michael Bay movie devoid of substance. And that's the last thing we should do to a PS2 classic.
