      Time to pioneer deep space survey tech. The theory of spacial "folding" needs a breakthrough, as well as the sciences behind cryogenics.

      Also, current economic practices need to be revolutionized. Nano technology can assist with that. The reason why our current "man-power" based economy would not suffice for inter-galactic travel/colonization is the sheer cost for production. The constructors/financeers of the first Space Colonizer will never see the result of their work; it would only be for a chance to make history.

      And there are few, if any businessmen who would agree to that kind of work: Something that could potentially put you out of business with absolutely no return on the investment.

      But one of the first steps is realised. A general consensus has been formed on the existence of another "Earth-like" planet. Now it's time to get to work.
