  • game suggestion rejected - don't know why ?

    Hello everyone,

I've worked for 3 months on a small free indie horror game all by myself just for you bros (and maybe even pewdiepie) to play.

I've suggested another game some time ago called Ao Oni 3D. But the moderators said it looked too much like the original ao oni, so they rejected the suggestion.

So I asked a moderator (Morgrayne in this case) what I should do to fix it.
He said change the name, monster and colour, and you'll be fine.

    I did.

Now I posted my new game to the suggestion area of the forum over a week ago and it still isn't showing. I'm wondering if I did something wrong, or something else got messed up ?
    I just want to know.

here is the post I made ( I followed the template, as far as i know):

    Hello everyone,

I made this cool game for pewdiepie to play,
It's called Kuro Oni, it has been out for 1 week.

Kuro Oni is based on the game Ao Oni, but Kuro Oni isn't the same.
Kuro Oni isn't made by the same person, it has a different name, a different map layout and a different monster.

    Description:
Kuro Oni is a 1st person 3d horror puzzle game. You are inside a mansion and you have to look for keys and items in order to solve puzzles to escape the house.
But there is a monster lurking around and it wants to eat you. It has got over 26 different rooms, the house is big, you get lost easily.

    Gameplay vid:

    here is a gameplay vid:

I've updated the game since this let's play, the monster appears more often now.
at the end he suddenly dies, I've fixed that too.
the doesn't crash any more when you die.

    Download Link:
    It is completely free!!
Here is a download link: idcgames.blogspot.nl/p/downloads.html

I think that if pewdiepie knew about this game, he would play it!

    thanks bros!!

So could someone explain to me what happened and why my thread got rejected?
I"ve also made a thread in the user creation section, sorry if it looks like I'm spamming, but at the content creation I'm showing my work, and here I'm asking for help. I do not mean to spam! ;)
  • As far as I know, it takes a bit of a while to get the your post showing in the Suggestions section.

I think it's to reduce the threads NOT following the template.

If your thread/suggestion is good, [following the template and such], a Moderator will approve it and it will show up in the Suggestions section.

It might take a lot of time. A lot of people are suggesting, and Mods have to go through every bit of them, so.

Just wait. It'll show up eventually.
  • A few suggestions coming from someone who is currently learning game design. Your game looks really good, but I would say the biggest problem is some of the environment design choices.

Here are my suggestions/problems with the game.

    1. There are no lights in the game, yet everything I've seen seems well lit. Adding in some actual light fixtures into your game will help increase the realism. Light coming from no where is umm.... not very good. IMO you should be able to turn on and off every light in the game. Also, a flashlight would be cool for when the lights go out :O

    2. The lighting is rather.... well it's not that good. I recommend working on it. If you do it right lighting alone can create a spooky atmosphere.

    3. No windows... none at all. There should be some windows showing the outdoors, even if you can't go outside it will add some atmosphere to the game. Maybe the only source of light in some rooms and be the light coming off the moon?

    4. Lack of detail in pretty much every room. You need to create more objects, treat every single room like it is your first born, and give it a lot of tlc. Hallways could have pictures or possibly paintings, the room to your left could be a bedroom. I am just throwing out ideas. It would look a lot better than:

    Room 1 - Table/Bookcase
    Room 2 - Two Crates
Room 3 - One Crate and a Book Case

Do you see what I mean? Instead you could have:

Room 1 - A window on one side of the room. A writing table with a mirror above it. A small bed, a night stand with a lamp on it and a book case with only a few books in it, perhaps two of those books are on the table.

Those are my suggestions, take em or leave em. I would offer to help but I only know udk, and even then I am just learning Maya, so the only thing I can do is create environments out of bsp brushes. When I have learned Maya I plan to study programming, just like you I plan on becoming an indie game developer.
  • Hello ScottMasonGames,

first of all thanks for taking the time to write that all down,
and you are completely right about those 4 points. But the thing is, I knew about all that while I was making it.
I didn't want to do this project for too long since this is just me experimenting. While I was making the rooms I knew about the windows/light sources which are absent but yea, I don't know.. I guess I wanted to save some time by neglecting that part and just focus on the gameplay. Which is funny because when I'm done with school (2 years from now) I want to study visual arts/3d graphics. But maybe time will change my plans (they probably will).

again, thanks for the effort and good luck with your own games !
