  • Fraps recording issue

Not to post so much in one day, but I've spent several hours preparing everything so I can begin recording and making videos.

My current problem involves fraps not properly recording. Namely, I'm trying to record "Home" and when I record; the resulting video in crammed in the upper left corner like it wants to be doing the commentary and I'm left with mostly black screen everywhere else. I recorded TF2 with no problems.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?

  • Home is in a really small resolution so FRAPS being the outstanding citizen will decide to make the recording small as hell as well. Your best bet is to just stick it in an editing program, crop it, then enlarge it.

I know that will make it terrible in terms of quality but Home is a pixelated game anyway and it is also very short. You can get all the items and beat the game within an hour if you are looking EVERYWHERE.
  • It plays full screen for me though. Unfortunately the resulting video is so small that all words are completely illegible. while looking around for some solutions I saw plenty of youtube videos with the game looking near perfect and they were using fraps. I've fiddled with some options but I can't seem to find the issue. If it's an isolated incident I'll probably cut my losses, but if this could be a reoccurring thing I'd like to find a way to fix it.

Like I said Home plays on a EXTREMELY small resolution.

Put the video in Vegas or whatever video editor you use.

Crop it so there is no black screen.

    Render.

    Upload.
Sorry, I didn't clarify. I did attempt to enlarge it. I quite literally get tetris shapes when the dialogue pops up. I do appreciate your input though, if anyone could recommend another solution? or at least a point in the right direction I would appreciate it.

    Not a problem mate.

I'm assuming you already tried the Half Size/Full Size and I believe FRAPS has the Custom Resolution option fix. (I have been using Bandicam so i don't remember all the options FRAPS has to offer)

This is a typical problem found in games such as Imscared where the game runs in full screen only on 480x360 or some odd resolution like that.
  • You could try using SnagIt and Audacity and then sync the video and audio together?

SnagIt quality (at least the old ass version I have) isn't as nice as Fraps by any means. But it sounds like it should be a lot better than the alternative you curently face. I did my cat mario with SnagIt.

When I did Cat Mario with SnagIt I also did the audio in SnagIt, but looking back, you can definitely do better by using audacity instead for audio, since SnagIt produces some funny mic background air noise. To making syncing the two clips together easier, you could probably keep sound on with SnagIt, and then mute it in your editing software after you line the audacity clip up correctly.

I hope this all made sense haha.

    Good luck.

  • No problem bud. If you don't mind me asking, which version do you have of it?

I downloaded 5.0 a long long time ago and never updated it haha. I would imagine newer versions can pump out nicer quality. Post your final product with snagit when you are done, i'm interested to see how it looks.
  • I was hoping for a free version or something of the sort, but I downloaded a free trial and it appears to be up to version 11

    *edit*

I will gladly let you know when I get the video finished and uploaded. Unfortunately I jumped the gun a bit and have very little idea how to work video editing software. I'll be learning a bit before I can upload. If anyone knows their way around adobe premiere I could use some tips. Otherwise some more novice-friendly video edited software sounds very appealing.
