I was wondering, how many of you out there are playing Tribes: Ascend?
It's a free to play game and a sequel to the Starsiege: Tribes series. You play as a Tribal Warrior of either the Blood Eagle or Diamond Sword tribes(with plans to add more later) locked in epic battles set over huge areas of land, traversing the terrain with jetpacks/boots that allow you to negate friction and build up insane speeds by "skiing" down mountains and using hills as ramps. It brings back elements of old-fashion shooters like quake in that a lot of combat involves slow projectiles. Even the automatic weapons have a set speed so prediction is a large part of hitting your target. The only hitscan weapons are the Sparrow/Eagle pistols and the shotguns. The action is fast and frenetic and if you haven't given it a try already I would highly recommend it.

If you give it a shot, look for me. I'm Deteno on there as well. :3

    • The primary game mode is capture the flag and most action revolves around securing yours or capturing the enemy's but there are a lot of ways to go about that. He's playing as a Pathfinder which is the primary flag running class. Most folks only use it to get the flag, run back to base, get the flag, run back to base, etc but there are a lot more ways to play it. Personally I play primarily Infiltrator which goes into the enemy base and uses skirmishing tactics, sabatoge and cloaking devices. My secondary is the Juggernaut which uses a Fusion Mortar to bombard enemies from extreme ranges. both of them decimate the enemy defense and clears the way for flag runners.

There is a large learning curve as you get used to moving in three dimensions, acquire new classes, try new tactics, and find new routes for getting an edge on your opponents. I find it to be a lovely change of pace from the more common shooters of the day.

    • That is actually legitimate tactic, Qustinnus. XD
If you have a two point advantage at the end of the match timer, it skips overtime and you win automatically. If the flag isn't at the base you can't score. So so long as you have it, they can't win. However there are ways to counter that, you don't get back health unless you pick up ammo kits with the Survivalist perk on so it's a war of attrition. Also Shrikes and Grav Cycles are excellent vehicles for chasing people and the impact nitron is a grenade that disorients you and forces you to drop it. Any of those can put an end to your efforts really fast but that's not to say it can't be done.

So what kit do you use? I like the Spinfusor and Prism Mines, not sure if I should go for the knives or pistol though.

Sadly it isn't on Steam. Well at least not yet. They also did Global Agenda which is so presumably it will be introduced to Steam upon release this April, but in the mean time you can use that link in my original post.
