    • Games like "Ib" or "The witch's house"?

~First of all, excuse me if this is in the wrong secction~

Hello bros! I'm a fairly new bro myself, since I've started to watch pewds a month ago by now. I started watching him play Ao Oni, and decided to play it on my own (I get scared super easily, but I think I'm enjoying these kinds of games). It wasn't too good or too bad, but then I discovered "The Witch's House" thanks to pewds and really loved it. Its music, jumpscares, simple but at the same time well-thought story and the old rpg graphics.

I played it until I unveiled all its secrets and got to know all the story, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, but recently discovered "Ib" and I'm enjoying it as much. The question is, do you guys know something alike to those two games?

I've never played horror games and such and I know these aren't exactly into the "horror" genre, but I get scared super easily and really like good stories like these. Thank you for any suggestion you post and Merry Christmas!

P.S.: English is not my main language, so sorry for any mistakes.

P.S.2: Keep up the good work pewdie! I don't watch everything you upload because there are some games that don't catch my attention, but one thing's for sure; you make me smile every time. Have a fun christmas!

    • After doing a little bit of research, I found some games that you might enjoy?
There's "Desert Nightmare" - the story: "Taking place somewhere in California, the game follows Sandra Richmont, who was traveling with her parents to visit their uncle. After an argument and a bathroom stop, her parents appear to have driven off without her. Thinking that her parents plan to stay overnight in the nearest city, Dusty Creek, Sandra heads towards there. However, after meeting two others who are stranded, she realizes that they are trapped and the city has some dark secrets..." and apparently it's really good! Cry played this as well and he really liked it so you can check it out over here!!!

From the same maker of "Desert Nightmare" there is also "Schuld". The story: "Schuld is about a man who finds himself in a dying world, without knowing how he got there and why he is there. The game itself is very linear and the puzzles are not especially complex." It's a little short so apparently you'll be able to finish it in 1 - 2 hours but it's still good none the less, not as good as Desert Nightmare and has more of a psychological thriller to it. Again, Cry played it so you can check out the gameplay here

You can also try Yume Nikki out? The story: "Players explore the dreams of the fictional character Madotsuki. Travelling through her dreams, the player encounters surreal and sometimes disturbing scenes" - apparently it's pretty good as well and you can check out a gameplay here :)

I hope it helped? If I find anymore I'll post them here.
    • Thank you guys! I'll start testing the games you suggested tonight. I heard about yume nikki though and researched it a little before coming here, and I have to say I didn't feel like playing it too much, but I guess i'll give it a roll. My hopes aren't too high to be honest, because I liked Ib and TWH to an extent where I don't think I can find a similar game that satisfy me more than that, but that's possibly a stupid way of thinking. I'll post here when I'm done to give my thoughts on these games. Thank you bros for your suggestions!

    • Hi friend,
I see we have another Witch's House/Ib fan. Welcome to PDP.net and hope you plan to stay!

Being a fan of games such as them myself, here's another suggestion of one I also enjoyed:
Corpse Party: Corpse Party has the same RPG-maker style as both TWH and Ib, and alike to both of them, there is a lot of same elements: puzzles, running from enemies, and an amazing storyline. Pewdiepie's friend Cry has a let's play on it which is what led me to discover it, and I have to say it is definitely on my top favorites along with TWH and Ib.

Other than that one that I didn't see while skimming through this thread, it seems all the main/good RPG-maker style horror games I like have been mentioned.
I can also see your view on Yume Nikki, the style and concept of the game is definitely different to others, but I think what really enhanced the game for me was all the fan-theories and fan-games (.flow being a previously mentioned example) of course, if that isn't your cup of tea that's completely A-OK.
    • Thanks again for the suggestions! Couldn't focus on playing because I got other stuff to deal with, but yesterday I read again your suggestions and decided to give Yume Nikki a roll at last. It was awkward at first, but honestly I enjoyed it more than I thought. Tried to finish it without looking a guide but had to take a peek for two effects; it was interesting and enjoying. I didn't like the ending much though, I won't write any spoilers but the end was just... how to put it, just too hurried and emotionless, like, "ok you've met the objetives of the game and this is what happens, now go play something else". In my humble opinion the same ending done better would've made Yume Nikki a great game, that's what it's lacking.

I'm downloading .flow right now and playing it late in the night. Funny thing is that Yume Nikki got me scared because of the awkward scenarios and music and it didn't even have much jumpscares, and I recall someone saying .flow was a yume nikki with more scaring stuff. I'll try out some more games of the ones you've suggested once I've finished .flow. See you around here!

    • I have startedto play the games also. I have some on my channel. Anyways, some are To The Moon ( I havent played it or seen it yet but I do not think it is scary, but idk, everyone seems to love it), Desert Nightmare, Corpse Party and Schuld. There are tons of those types of games out there. Way to many for me to think of off the top of my head. The guy Pewds co ops with alot, Cry, plays alot of those types of games. You could check out his channel. I believe his channel is ChaoticMonki.
    • I've tried to play .flow after yume nikki but couldn't get to install it properly, don't know if because of Applocale or what but I guess im not playing it, too much trouble. I'll try next corpse party, since some of you mentioned it and looks good. I wanted to play it in the first place but I don't know if I'd be able to play it without getting an axe to defend myself from the bloody killers awaiting in my dark kitchen or the monsters lurking beneath my bed.

Also, as the vast majority that played Yume nikki I've been thinking about the meaning of the game, about what it portraits. I thought about a theory: *Spoiler alert*

      Display Spoiler

I think madotsuki is a shut-in that sees her dreams as her real world and vice versa. A world she herself built, made of traumas, videogames, feelings, dreams and all sort of things. The effects may act as the goals in her life and the hard work it takes to achieve them, and once all her goals in life have been achieved her life ends. I think so because madotsuki sleeps almost all day long and she doesn't even go outside when she's awake.
Just a theory like many others. The game is charming that way, one tries to constantly give and explanation of what it's happening there.

I visited yesterday a webpage about user made theories (yume nikki's wiki --> yumenikki.wikia.com/wiki/Theories, don't know if im allowed to post that link, if i'm not I'll edit it right away) it's interesting to read. Glad I played Yume Nikki, didn't like it as much but I enjoyed it. I'm playing corpse party this weekend with a friend, hope I can survive it!

    • Hello there, could anyone enlighten me about corpse party? I'm looking for info. about it, how much of them are out at the moment, the platforms you can play it and stuff but I don't seem to find it. I wanted to play it tonight but I don't know if Im gonna need a PSP or there is a PC version. Thank you in advance! Getting mentally prepared to play that, Im gonna need it.

EDIT: Played Corpse party rebuilt, the only one I could find that didn't need to be played on PSP. I don't enjoyed it much, but finished it. I don't think that was the one you guys suggested me to play, can someone clarify that to me please?

It's the PSP one, as far as I know that isn't on PC. Corpse Party and Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

    • Misao is a Japanese RPG made by the same guy who made Mad Father. I played the game and it did feel like it was rushed..it was defintely not better than Mad Father but it is worth the play.

    • I ended up playing Mad father before touching misao. The game wasn't bad, it is pretty good but I don't seem to like it that much for some reason.

I think I missed some more background information. About the persons who died on the father's experiments, about the boy who saves Aya, about Ogre, and aya's mother and so on. When the game is heading towards the end you don't receive that much clean information than when you're bombed with flashbacks earlier.
Also didn't enjoy the riddles that much, but the jumpscares were spot on.

Just the feeling I have towards the game. I enjoyed it though, but ended it a bit unsatisfied in comparison with other games for the reasons written above. I guess it just doesn't totally suit my fancy, but the story itself was pretty interesting.

I am really discovering so much good games and enjoying it a lot thanks to you guys. Ever since playing The witch's house i'm having so much fun with every game I play of the same genre. Did try to install .flow since I ended up enjoying Yume Nikki much more than I expected but got problems with it, an error won't let me play. I guess the next game I'll be playing will be Yume 2kki or .flow if the comp let me, but i'm open to new (or old!) suggestions.

    • Games similar to The Witch's House

I absolutely adore games like TWH, IB, Mad Father, etc.
I'm playing The Crooked Man right now and its fantastic. (Pewdiepie has also played it) Deffinently try that out! Mermaid Swamp is another good one. It starts off pretty slow and uneventful but once it gets into it its pretty good. Misao is another good one. Pewdiepie played that one and it looked amazing. The person who made The Crooked Man also has a game called Paranoic (Pewds has also played that I believe) and it looks super good. Hopefully you try these and enjoy them ^^
