Hello Bros! I had problems with Sony Vegas 12 64-bit randomly and went about trying to fix it. I figured out how and posted this on another site that I post on. So I decided to bring it here to post once I watched a fellow bros video where he ranted a bit about how his Sony Vegas has been a butt to him as of late.
Well, I have found a solution to my Sony Vegas Pro woes.
For about 4 days I had minimal issues using Sony Vegas Pro 12 64-bit.
Then for no apparent reason the program decided to pick up the habit of freezing, hanging, crashing, whatever you want to call it, primarily during Rendering. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
I tried a few methods to remedy the situation such as
- Reinstalling Vegas Pro 12
- Saying screw Vegas Pro 12, and downloaded Vegas Pro 11 (which was even worse)
- Did basic maintenance like defragmenting and disk cleanup (Which is VERY good idea when using programs like Fraps that creates files that take up large spaces of hard drive space and then are eventually deleted)
- A fun amount of Computer restarts.
- Reediting my video
- Trying to render at different qualities
All to no avail
So After doing a bit of extra research I read that the possible issues could reside with my Graphics Card and how Vegas uses GPU acceleration to make previews look prettier and to make Rendering go a bit faster., and also that it could have been a "Dynamic RAM" issue. I believe that dynamic ram simply makes it so when previewing the video in the editor, less frames are lost.
While doing that research I came across this bit of info regarding GPU Acceleration on the Vegas Pro website
Supported cards for GPU-acceleration
To take full advantage of the GPU-acceleration in Vegas Pro 12, you will need a supported card with at least 512 MB of GPU memory.
NVIDIA
Requires a CUDA-enabled GPU and driver 270.xx or later. GeForce GPUs:
GeForce GTX 4xx Series or higher (or GeForce GT 2xx Series or higher with driver 285.62 or later).
Quadro GPUs: Quadro 600 or higher (or Quadro FX 1700 or higher with driver 285.62 or later).
NVIDIA recommends NVIDIA Quadro for professional applications and recommends use of the latest boards based on the Fermi architecture.
AMD/ATI
Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU. If using a FirePro GPU, FirePro unified driver 8.85 or later is required.
I happen to have a NVIDIA GTS 360m. I'm not entirely up to date on my NVIDIA graphics card models, but I'm assuming that Vegas just doesn't have full blown support for mobile GPU's even if they are dedicated graphics cards. (Mine is the 1GB GDDR5 VRAM version). I'm guessing that this may be one of the issues.
Anyway, on to what I did to fix it (it was painfully simple)
1)I went into Vegas Pro 12,
2) Clicked Options on the top tab
3) then "Preferences"
4) After in Preferences window, i clicked the "Video" Tab
5) Within the Video tab I set the Dynamic RAM Preview Max (Mb) to "0" And I set the GPU Acceleration from my graphics card to "Off:

Afterwards I tried rendering my video and VIOLA! It worked
After 2 days of having my videos pause at 1% and then crash, the issue has been resolved!
The only inconveniences that have risen from these "fixes" are that rendering takes a slightly longer time (it took about an extra 15 minutes) and also the video preview within Vegas doesn't look as sexy as it did before. But oh well, at least the final product is working now.
I'm not sure that too many of you here really care too much about the process, but I'd imagine that some poor sap on google may be trying to figure out the same thing like I was recently doing, so hopefully they may come here and find a solution for themselves.
I hope this has helped! In other news. My youtube channel is up and functioning again due to these fixes! Feel free to check it out
