Hey guys,
I did a search on the forum and was surprised that I didn't see this game suggested. I actually worked on the English localization as part of the PLAYISM team and am also helping the developers publish on the various platforms.
I hope it is acceptable to still suggest the game! We want as many people as possible to play and enjoy this hidden gem.
Basic Info:
A 2D Action platformer with very heavy emphasis on puzzle solving. The game was originally developed and released in 2005 as a freeware title, with graphics which were inspired by old MSX platformers.
It is one of the most well known Japanese indie games and the team that made it in the free time went on to start a small company. They were then approached about porting it to WiiWare, and instead decided to go the whole nine yards and remake the entire game. The graphics were reworked to be closer to a 32 bit style and a lot of the puzzles and gameplay were also tweaked in order to fix some balance issues and also to give previous fans a completely fresh experience.
The premise puts you in the shoes of Professor Lemeza who is following in his father's footsteps and trying to unravel the mysteries of the giant ruins "La Mulana" in order to trace back the origins of humanity.
The game is notoriously difficult because of its abundance of traps, extremely complex puzzles, and ball bustingly hard full screen bosses.
It does an amazing job of creating the impression that you are unraveling a new piece of the overall mystery with each new puzzle you solve.
Overall it is probably one of the most content heavy metroidvania games ever created and can easily last a player over 40+ hours.
