1. You recorded in Audacity, but it didn't show the noise?

2. How many friends were there? Did all of them hear the noise?

3. Did you try calling them again and checking if there was the noise?

Try and see if it works with someone else?

Remove and reinstall your Skype?

Try it with another Skype account?

Try if the same thing happens on Teamspeak.

Now I am fairly sure that it's a problem with your Skype.

Re-installing might fix it. Also, try to install a different version than the one you have right now.

What about testing on a different account?

If you already did that, I can only tell you try an alternative to Skype.

Hello! I don't mean to resurrect a 2 month old thread, but I found a solution to this problem. And; since it's the first thing that pops up when searching "Samson C01U Skype Problems" I felt like it was my duty to help anyone, like me, who happened to stumble upon it.

Anyway, I listened to myself though the Microphone Properties and I sounded fine, but when I made a Skype call, I made a terrible noise and sounded like.. A robot, I suppose. The solution I found for this is to open up your Recording Devices (you can get here though right clicking your little volume button on the left side of the screen, or through control panel, Sound, Recording devices) Right click the Samson C01U, (Mine just said Microphone) click properties, then advanced. In this screen click the little drop down menu. Now you should see the options for 1 or 2 channels and how many Hz. The Options I have here are Telephone, AM Radio, Dictation, AM Radio, CD, And DVD both in 1 and 2 channel. When I select Telephone, Dictation, or AM Radio my mic sounds like previously described. When I select CD or DVD my mic sounds totally perfect.

So I would recommend picking one of these options and applying it, and call the "Echo / Sound Test Service" in Skype, or while talking to a brave and possibly soon-to-be-deaf friend. I thought It would have been a problem with the speakers revertating the noise from the mic back into the mic, causing a painful ear ringing.
