Timing is extremely important in these kinda games, i wouldn't suggest you to make too many jump scares because a player will eventually grow accustomed to it, meaning the rest of the scares in the game wont have an effect.
Mindfuck the player give him/her high hopes and mess around with them give em a sense of paranoia.
That is imo the best type of horror game.

And we all knew that silent hill's the master of all possible minduck... and i have a quick-sketch of a demon.. Gotta re-size it tough

Good timing of jump scare is very important, don't make too may jump scares or it will be predictable and not scary anymore.. and yeah mindfuck the player, just like lazypeanut said.
