Hell how do you use redstone in Minecraft? Really, I have a mountain base/mansion and I can't use redstone to make cool secret entrances to my mines or to my Hell (Nether) portal. Other than knowing how pretty it looks when you mine it, I know NOTHING about redstone. Help?

Okay, there's this kid named Daniel in my sister's class. They have the like "Line Leader" and "Caboose" and all that crap. I'm sick of trying to find really good maps to start my creative file with. All of them are Plains or Jungle biomes, and seriously, they are NOT good for starting my mountain base. If any of you people that play Minecraft have a good seed with a Ravine or a really big, cavernous Extreme Hills biome seed, can you please comment or do SOMETHING. Thanks!
