Uh, well, I'm not sure how to explain exactly, but I'll do my best When I start drawing I do an oval/circle shape for the guideline for the face, a little way above the centre of this, I usually put a dot, which is the marker-point for the hair. Each individual piece of hair I draw is angled to come from this dot, even if it doesn't connect to it (with a few exceptions, such as hair by the neck, or if it sticks out at some bizzare angle).
