The scariest game I've played so far is definitely White Day. On top of the occasional jumps they have in the game, there are also some scenes and secrets within the game which can leave you with sleepless nights. Other than that, the custom stories from Amnesia are also pretty good.

I suggest that you try to create different sort of jumpscares each time and try not to make it too frequent. Also, please don't make it a Slender clone, I think it's best you take a look at other horror games that are out there. Maybe something like Dead Space and Resident Evil. From what I see, last time, he was fully emerged in his games. He made jokes and comments on things just to calm himself down and to entertain himself. Now, he jokes and comments on things excessively and we can't really tell why. Everyone changes and it is not necessarily a bad thing. It creates a new genre for himself and as long as he and a majority of his audience enjoys it, it should be alright.

GMod is pretty good but I normally pick up any game that I have not played in awhile. That's the only time it's good to have plenty of games, you can have a variety of things to play any time you need them.
