Youtube supports many files types, I recommend rendering your videos to .wmv, this is the format I use, it takes short time to render and upload faster, never save them as .avi it will take a long time. As a screen recorder there are many out there, but the one's I like to use are: Camtasia studio, Bandicam. I use more the second one.
