I don't even have 100, but I guess it comes from gently nurturing and growing a loyal community. It's never been harder to expose a channel, there is an utter over saturation of at current of people doing relatively the same thing - some people are trying to push it in peoples faces because they want to -be somebody- others are doing it for leisure and enjoyment or other purposes.
So how did you get your first 100 subs on youtube?

I don't have 100 subs either, but uploading frequently is the best way. The more you upload, the more you get noticed. Then interact with your subscribers.
You can also advertise your channel, but you may get dislikes and haters. People this days don't like self-promotion on such sites as Reddit etc. You can advertise your channel on forums, such this.

Haven't hit 100, although I'm sitting nicely at 56! xD
I don't really play modern games, I tend to go away from the mainstream and play the games I enjoy, but everyone has really hit the nail on the head in this thread; Simply upload videos. xD -
I got super lucky with my first video being DayZ with an outstanding encounter lol.
I wish I could get a more consistent viewership but I can't really complain with 250 with how short of a time I've had the channel.
Slowly I've been making progress with more close knit subs rather than viral ones.
But thats my short sweet story!twitch.tv/mrtsengar
Feeling out twitch, just started and could use the support and feedback!

I feel kind of bad for the people that put a lot of work into their channels and don't get hardly any subscribers and some do. It's all a matter of luck and such I guess.
I think if you really want to gain lots of subs and views it's important to give the viewers something very creative and unique. What I've seen so far people also really like particular things. Like everyone I know who has been uploading many shooter videos/lets plays has gained a shit load of subs, probably as there are so many people who enjoy playing shooters As you said before it is also essential sometimes to play games that people really wanna check out or are very hyped.
For me I really don't care about those things, I mean it's nice if people like or hype what you are playing right now, but I wouldn't ever play things just to please the crowds.

I find it's all about good content and nurturing the fans that you do have. The better you treat your fans (as in replying to their comments) the better word of mouth that will spread about you. That's what I've been finding anyways.YouTube Channel:

Hi i am Mousy and i live in iceland! My channels name is Draazil if anyone is interested in me and my buddies Elmo JJ and Erazer having fun with video games! We reached 100 subs after quite a while but wow that was still an amazing feeling that there is people actually watching our videos! So in my opinion i think that we got our first 100 subs through a lot of advertising mainly on our Facebook like page and surely some people liking our videos and sharing with friends and basic stuff like that but also us really trying to show that we love video games and making videos acting like morons! Basically... love what you are doing otherwise you will not be happy and when you are not happy how can others like watching what you are doing?
Please check my channel out if you are interested BROFIST! -

I actually had another channel which had about 40 subscribers but I abandoned it since the content there was not good at all. When I started my new channel, I had to start from scratch but I had vowed to make sure that I would keep improving from then on.
So I did gaming videos using an in built microphone and camera but that got me around 30 subscribers so I started doing skits again. With each successful video that I was certain that I was proud of, I post it up on social networks and forums to advertise it but that only got about 60. Later on, I got better at what I did with both gaming and skits so I got better equipment and softwares to further improve myself. I started going on chatrooms and spoke, advised and tried collaborating with other Youtubers. From that, I now have 115 subscribers.
In a nutshell, it's
1. Start out with what you have
2. Show off only the good content you have occasionally
3. Get better equipment when you are ready with it
4. Try getting more support from the people around you
Hope this helps. -

I got mine first 100 subscribers through a lot of hard work and dedication. I would make sure that I put out quality video and before I uploaded a video I would ask myself one simple question, "If I were to see this video and watch it, would I stay and watch it?". Not only that I would make sure to reply to every comment that I got on every video. To this day I still make sure I reply to every comment I receive on a video because your not doing it for yourself, your doing it for your viewers and I thinks its awesome to get to know them. Through that I made up a small fan base that turned into my first 100 subs I am still working hard on getting my viewer quality video and I feel that if you keep working hard, stay dedicated, and keep in touch with your viewers then I think the views and subscribers will come along for the ride!
So that's my story plus my view on it!Kaniva - Lets Play Some Games

I have no idea how I got my first 100, to be honest. I have no idea how to really advertise my channel, so the fact that I have what I have amazes me.
