Can you give us the name of your motherboard and HD? Download Aida64 if you don't know it by yourself.
You can go to the manufacturers website of your HD and download their diagnostic tool, run it to check errors.
Run cmd and type chkdsk.exe /f.
Type Y when it asks if you would like to schedule a disk check for the next restart.
Type exit.
Restart the computer and checkdisk will reallocate the bad sectors on your HDD IF possible.
It's definitely HD or motherboard problem.

I don't know why you guys bother asking for specs and stuff, it said disk error, so it's obviously a disk error, you said you had an old HDD or if you said SSD I can't be arsed to re-read but, post your name and age and all that good stuff of your disk(s)."I've begun my voyage in a paper boat without a bottom; I will fly to the moon in it."

Idk , pretty old. I took it out of my pc that i got around 2003 - 2005 I think :x -
I believe it's still IDE.:)) Go buy a new one.-.- please.:))
Probably an HDD problem. -
Probably? Again, he said he got the error message "Disk error", so it obviously is that. And the disk is a SATA disk.
And yes, a 9 - 7 year old HDD is nothing worth keeping, although, HDD's are rather expensive nowadays because of the shortage in production, anyhoodles, change that and maybe you'll have to do some reformatting or installing and stahffs, it should be fine if you get rid of your old disk."I've begun my voyage in a paper boat without a bottom; I will fly to the moon in it."

No problem, I think SSD disks are cheaper than HDD's, but as you may know, they are faster at loading but they don't have huge memory bases."I've begun my voyage in a paper boat without a bottom; I will fly to the moon in it."

$80 for 500GB SATA III is good. Can't expect the HDD to drop prices this quarter of the year but probably next yr.

Maybe dust in your computer ?
And no, SSD is more than expensive when it's +300go ( or something like that ) than a HDD. ( I think. )
If it's not dust, the HDD may have corrupted segment, or something like that. That may be why it said "Disk Error".
There's HDD of +250go at something like 60€, Wester Digital. SATA and stuff. I think you can easily find a cheap and good one, just check about the quality.
And don't forget, DON'T throw your HDD anywhere, keep it with you. Some mad people can always check your data, and take your personal information, etc. Even if it's broken, never throw a HDD c: -
