Garry's Mod is a Standalone Game, you don't need any for it to run. Of Course, if you want ALL the Textures, Models etc., you'd need Half Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2, Portal Games and Counter Strike: Source. But Gmod itself can be run without any extra games.

I use the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic3D Alpha, it is a headset, but the Mic has great quality and no noise. Also, you can take out the microphone and I'm sure there's a stand and cable so you can use it as a desktop Mic. I've only had good experiences with this headset Or of course if you are willing to spend a bit more you can get the Yeti

You could always build a pop-filter by yourself if you wanted to.

Try different programs/browsers. I tried through stuff like Free Youtube Uploader and Chrome (which is my normal browser). I ended up using Internet Explorer 10, because it just uploaded the fastest. It's a Game of Trial and Error. But your upload speed also depends on how full the youtube servers are atm ;).
