  • Trying to build my own gaming PC

    MadKlauss - - Technology

    Post

I just recently bought a new PC for 1400 euros (about 1500$) and it's been working smoothly on max with every game so far, without setting 4k resolution though :P. So, this is what I got: Fractal Design, Define R5 (very charismatic case which has special silence properties along with better than average cooling capabilities) Chieftec 700W Smart Series (not much to say, it's Chieftec so it's good quality :)) Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 2 Intel Core i5-4690 (runs very well with everything) Cooler Mas…

Everything seems pretty awesome except the motherboard. I strongly recommend to avoid anything made by Asrock as they are know to be one of the crappiest major computer part manufacturers. You could get a very good Gigabyte or Asus motherboard for the same price.

For 2000 dollars you could buy a very powerful pc. Though it would be nice to know from where are you going to buy the parts so I can look them up them for you.

There is a large variety of i7 cpu's and good motherbords. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. The cost of a i7 cpu can go from 300$ to 1000$.

The i7 has been around for a while now and has many different/better versions but it is much more expensive than the i5 CPU. Why not to use an Asrock motherboard? Because their motherboards are low quality and have a much bigger possibility to ''die''. I would recommend motherboards made by Gigabyte, Asus or MSI.

My suggestion would be to avoid any PC if it has an Asrock motherboard.

  • Well every part makes a computer work faster. Each part in it's own way but all of the parts need to be good otherwise the slow parts will slow down (a.k.a. bottleneck) the entire machine with it.

Quote from azka: “if its custom-built, what kind of specification would i require to play games without any difficulties? and how much will it cost to build one anyway?” Depends on how much you are willing to spend. The cost of a good to a very good PC can go from 900 to 2000 euros. (about the same in $)

I'm trying to save up enough money for a proper, long lasting, gaming PC and looking up parts, so this is what I came up and I could use your opinions and suggestions. =3 Case: Fractal Design Define XL R2, Black Pearl PSU: Corsair 850W, RM850, 13.5cm fan, 80+ Gold, Modular Mobo: Asus P9X79 CPU: Core i7-4930K CPU cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS RAM: Kingston 16GB,DDR3, 1600MHz, CL9, Kit of 2, HyperX Genesis, XMP GPU: Asus GeForce GTX780, 3GB, GDDR5, DirectCU II OC SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300, 120GB, 7…

Vincent "Vinnie" Gognitti from Max Payne 1 & 2. I love his witty, bossy, childish attitude. He kept making himself seem like the big boss in the Punchinello crime family but like Max once said "he has the brains but lacked the balls" so his threats were never taken seriously.

For it is Doom 3 + Resurection of Evil, mostly because it was my first horror game. The dogs still freak me out especially because they always attack from behind you.

  • liquid cooling

    MadKlauss - - Technology

    Post

You can't put a liquid cooler on a GPU as it has its own air cooler set on it. I would advise checking a local website (or ebay or amazon) for price differences. It's not actually water, it's a special liquid which moves around to cool the CPU. It's pretty safe unless you prod it with a sharp object often.

  • Alienware - opinions?

With that you could get a laptop with a i5 or i7 processor, 4-8Gb of RAM, 500-750Gb of HDD, but here's the tricky part. Look for one which either has Intel HD 4400 or above (4600, 5000, 5200, etc.) or one with NVIDIA GeForce GT740M or GT750M.

That's hardly technical knowledge, but as I said Alienware laptops are overpriced for what they have. Any brand besides the overpriced Alienware, Razor, Apple or the low quality Toshiba are good. So I recommend you look up some Acer, Asus, Dell, HP or Samsung laptops.

Well then don't look for a laptop judging by it's brand. Judge it by it's specifications!
