I already like YouTube pretty much the way it is but they could show some more smaller channels in the recommendations instead of just the big ones. It gets boring over time.

Stop using so called video promotion communities. Rather search communities that are interested in the content you make. This can be in forums, Facebook groups, G+ communities or subreddits. Build up a reputation there and only then start to post links to your content. But don't post your everyday crap. Only choose your best of the best with honours sir! Does anybody really think PewDiePie will choose a channel with 500 subs but only five views per video for the shoutout? Come on - think at least a bit. If he chose the channel that channel would also have content that already brought it more views. I see no way cheaters make their way into the final round.

Go to Facebook, G+ and Reddit and search for communities that are about your content there. Get engaged and people will become interested in what you have to offer.

As much as I like paid subscriptions to remove ads I dislike that YouTube Red allows hiding content behind a paywall. Anyway as you could already host paid subscription channels and use other options for paid content I guess not so much will change.

Don't excuse for giving everybody a fair chance. After all it's us who need to thank you for this awesome opportunity.

Some people just like to troll around. As dislikes don't do anything in the competition as far as I know it's best to simply ignore them.
