well another slender based game....might as well give it a try

  • Rockstar announced that they were working on a PS3-exclusive title way back in 2007, but it wasn't until June of 2009 that we actually found out what that was. Now here we are in 2012 and the details on Agent are still sparse. So, at this point, what do we know for sure? Well, first of all, Agent is supposedly a game-changer. In the announcement press release, Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, called it "the ultimate action game." Additionally, Ben Feder, former president of Take-Two Intera…

  • For those unfamiliar with Afro Samurai's story, the protagonist is a badass black man who's one-part Sheriff Bart, one-part Shaft, and a whole lot of Bruce Lee. Afro was brought up in a dojo after his father was murdered by an assassin. Afro not only seeks revenge for his father, but also wants to recover his headband and take his rightful place as the baddest mofo… Sho 'Nuff! Admittedly, Afro Samurai is not particularly innovative in terms of gameplay. In fact, the devs seem to have borrowed he…

  • Kheops Studio takes a few liberties with Jules Verne's classic the Mysterious Island with the release of Return to Mysterious Island. Puzzle solvers should enjoy this romp through the strange landscape that hides a sordid past. Jules Verne was a visionary. His predictions of the future as related through his stories are nothing short of uncanny. But even he couldn't envision all of the developments that would take place in Return to Mysterious Island. This game blends past, present and future el…

  • We all hate it when a first-person shooter has a campaign that feels tacked on. So why not just kill the campaign, lower the price, and focus on delivering a great multiplayer experience? This is the logic that gave us games like Blacklight: Tango Down, Hybrid, and Battlefield Play4Free. And now 2 Dawn Games, with funding from Kickstarter and a highly accomplished development team, has added Ravaged to the mix. Ravaged is a shooter with a twist—it has the hallmarks of a modern FPS, right down to…

    Post

What is missing from PsychoToxic is soul. It's not a unique game by any standards. It's a regular shooter with average graphics and sounds. It mixes the reality of a FPS with supernatural forces that feel more like power-ups than anything else. It's so unmemorable it fails to leave a lasting impression. When everything is said and done you'll likely forget you even played this game. PsychoToxic is not bad but it's like fast food. It will satisfy but it doesn't nourish. If you're looking for dept…

  • The Experiment!

    Post

Just like any other time-worn genre, adventure games - even those with the benefit of having an air of creepiness interspersed throughout - are not immune to the pitfalls frequently found from one title to the next: recycling of old tenets, lack of innovation, and dull play mechanics. It's always encouraging when something new and interesting comes along. When French developers Lexis Numérique concocted The Experiment, aptly named as it is, they threw the rulebook out completely. The result is a…

  • Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern is a decent adventure game, filled with a variety of puzzles set in prehistoric times. It's the only prehistoric premise that I'm aware of in this genre and although it doesn't exploit the theme to its full potential it's still unique and begs for numerous sequels to fully explore this premise. Think of it, a game set in this epoch is perfectly suited for exploration and puzzle solving since this is the beginning of mankinds' development. Every situation back the…

    Post

The guys from Alientrap had a specific plan in mind for Capsized: they wanted to create a 2D platformer that incorporated elements from the first-person shooter genre. This may seem like a fairly strange and difficult goal to accomplish, but they've managed to do so quite successfully. While Capsized is strictly a 2D game, the controls, sound FX, and weapon choices come straight out of the world of FPS games. In fact, it's hard to ignore the fact that these guys drew heavily from the well of suc…
